Oral Appliance Therapy
Oral appliance therapy is a custom-made mandibular advancement device that's designed to help shift your jaw forward while you sleep. This helps to prevent your tongue and soft palate from falling back and closing your airway while you sleep.
If you have mild to moderate sleep apnea, an oral appliance could be the best choice for you. If you have severe sleep apnea, have previously been given a CPAP device and are unsatisfied or unable to use it, oral appliance therapy may be considered as an alternative way to treat your sleep apnea. Oral appliance therapy is covered by Medicare and most medical insurance plans.
Advantages of Oral Appliance Therapy:
Easy to wear
Convenient for travel
Easy to care for
Oral appliance therapy is an effective, non-invasive treatment that fits easily into your lifestyle.
The oral appliance is worn only at night during sleep, and fits like a sports mouth guard or orthodontic retainer.
How is a custom oral appliance made?
If you and your doctor decide that Oral Appliance Therapy is the best treatment option for you, your custom appliance will be made by a dentist specializing in sleep dental care.
Consultation & Impressions
After answering any questions you might have, Dr. Bloch will perform an exam of the mouth, neck, and airway to decide which FDA-approved oral appliance is right for you. After that, impressions will be taken of your teeth so your device will be custom-fit for your mouth. That's it! No tools, no drilling, no fear!
Dr. Bloch will check the fit of the appliance and you will be instructed on how to care for it before sending you home for your first night of restful sleep!
Adjustments & Follow-up
Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to fine-tune the adjustment of your device to maximize its comfort and effectiveness allowing you the best night's sleep possible.
